A lot of people know Montreal as one of the biggest sports-oriented locations not just in Canada, but in the whole world. And one of the most beloved teams in the city is the Montreal Alouettes.

For today’s blog, Montreal native and huge fan of the Alouettes Frank Andreoli shares some interesting facts about a true Alouettes legend, Mike Pringle.

When Mike Pringle was in college, he had the attention of so many scouts in American Football. He started in Washington State before moving to California State in his third year in college. This was when he amassed a staggering 2,690 yards in all-purpose yardage — a school record, Frank Andreoli notes.

There was a twist to Pringle’s story, though, as he was not able to play for the National Football League even when he was drafted in 1990 and signed by a couple of the league’s teams. He instead made his way up north to the Canadian Football league and joined the Edmonton Eskimos, before transferring to the Sacramento Gold Miners.

It wasn’t until 1996 when Pringle joined the Alouettes. The following year, he showed everyone his talent and became one of the best running backs in the CFL. The team though had a dismal season, with Pringle being the only reason fans came to watch.

In 2002, an aging Pringle and the Alouettes captured the 90th Grey Cup, winning over the Eskimos, capping off quite a stellar career, Frank Andreoli adds.
